Product Description

Girl Reading Limited Edition Fine Art Print by Vanessa Bell.

Lithograph on paper 1945. In pre second world war Europe, particularly in France, students in art schools were encouraged to experiment with various printmaking methods; this, generally speaking, was not the case in Britain. In 1945 however, two sisters, Frances Byng-Stamper and Caroline Lucas, set up Millers Press in Lewes, East Sussex. Their express purpose was to revitalise the art of lithography, and they managed to commission some exceptional artists, Vanessa Bell amongst them. This print, Girl Reading, was the very first print in the sister’s initial set of eight commissioned prints, and it, along with the others in the series, was quickly bought by the V&A and other public collections.
