Spring is Nearly Here
Monday, March 07, 2016
It’s almost Spring and here at Mary Kilvert we’re so excited!
With the arrival of Spring we can expect a brand new fall of lambs, these little ones aren’t old enough to have learnt to knit a whole jumper yet but can just about knit a little scarf to keep them cosy.
One of our favourite things to do at this time of year is visiting our nearest National Trust property Stourhead House and Gardens. Though always a beautiful walk, we recommend visiting at the turning of the seasons for the biggest impact, seeing the snow drops and daffodils poke their heads out is a truly joyful experience. If you do plan on visiting the gardens be sure to wrap up warm so you can comfortably explore all the grounds have to offer, we suggest some cashmere gloves or some lambswool socks.

Hello cousin Mary – from Tasmania. We too are having the change of the seasons, but for us, it’s into autumn. We love your inspired art & creations! Our state has a very high quality wool production industry, with the ultimate quality to be found in the ultra-fine merino wools.
Also, alpaca farms are growing in number all the time as the popularity of crafting with this exquisite yarn continues to escalate.
Sadly, I observe that the popularity of knitting in Australia has diminished as cheap imports flood the market. There is certainly a need for quality warm clothing as all of Southern Australia feels the chill in our winters, most particularly in my home state of Tasmania (42 degrees south where we live in Launceston).
– We get the “roaring forties” winds from the west from the Southern Indian Ocean!
I bet you’re enjoying knitting for your gorgeous little one. – Keep up the good work! Regards, Karina Brooks (nee Kilvert) – younger daughter of “Maurice Kilvert”.
